GIVING ADVICE IS AN EASY TASK


Someone defined that  "Consultant  is a person who at your cost  understands the problem from you and tell the solution to you which you already know ."

Many people think engineering and management are entirely different things .It is really not so.The two things  do have relation.Managing engineering solutions is extremely tough task .Most engineers can solve management related issues simply by using common sense but if  managers give engineering solutions they more often backfire.
Broadly there are consultants in two categories. Technical consultants who are expected to  give solutions to engineering problems.The other category of Consultants work in areas  like finance, personnel,legal matters, ,administration, logistic and other  such fields.They engineer the solutions!
Most companies employ consultants and seek their advice for the various problems / issues they face because the expertise may not be available within the company.
Legal consultants or financial advisers flourish not because their advice is excellent  but they have immaculate skill  to twist or interpret  the rules in favor of their clients. Here It is not important to be on the side of truth but it is important to convincingly argue  that their side is true.These consultants must be clever and smart and not necessarily intelligent in their subject.
Unfortunately Consultants in the technical fields don't have this liberty of twisting the facts. They may twist the technical facts but they soon get exposed as technical laws can  have  one and only one interpretation .We do come across smart and clever technical consultants but ultimately one observes that intelligence is absolutely necessary to reach to the engineering solution and for successfully implementing it good management is essential..One may , for some time,  manage the technical   things but not too long .Technical issues or problems should be    solved by reaching to the root  while other types of problems are to be managed .

Unfortunately we observe that when technical faults are managed instead of solved, situation will lead to disasters or severe accidents.

Of all the things it is extremely important to seek consultancy from the right source. If the adviser is not competent then objective will not be achieved

Giving advice is one of the easiest tasks.Most People liberally give advice if they are not the stake holders .It is therefore important to identify   the right advisor.

From whom you are taking advice is critical for the success.

FALL IN LINE

FALL  IN   LINE 43 years back I attended one lecture of noted management expert and teacher , Professor Sharu Rangnekar and later  read his  one small and wonderful   book titled " In the wonderland of Indian Mangers".I honestly feel that no one has described  management style and work culture of  Indian Industries better than professor Rangnekar. Since then I have been a silent observer of the people I have met in various industries.
