HOLY GANGA


The nearest place from Delhi where there is a stream of holy Ganga is Gadhmukteshwara.This place is about 50 kms from Delhi.I initially planned to visit this place but this place people generally visit to perform last rites so I dropped the idea. The choice then  was Haridwar . We started  in the early morning of first week of October ,to be precise on 2nd October which was a national holiday.After a wonderful Breakfast on our way at Khatauli on high way we continued our journey and after  two  hours we saw the great river for the first time.There were very old bridges and Ganga hardly looked impressive . I was rather worried about the conditions of those bridges and road and since no one was seen near the river bank we continued to proceed. 

We Did not know  the exact  place where we have to go so after some time I stopped  and asked the  stranger where is the nearest Ganga river ? He was annoyed as I Did not say Gangaji . The stranger told me I should hire Vikram and he will take me to Gangaji. Saying  Ganga instead of Gangaji was a crime in his opinion . I Did not know what is Vikram so  I asked another person and this time I asked about the nearest place of Gangaji.We then reached a nice looking place where the great river was flowing and producing musical sound  . That rhythm was so attractive that in no time we reached the bank of the river.

when I first time  touched  holy  Ganga River at some spot between Haridwar and Hrishikesh I was thrilled and forgot everything .There was constant flow of chilled and absolutely clean water and it was difficult to imagine where from so much of water is coming and if so then why there is water scarcity in our country?One could very clearly see the stones on the bottom of the river and I knew that actual depth was more than what It appears.When I saw the depth ,I remembered  good old days when I was studying in the 10 th standard. There were some experiments in physics lab and we used to do them very seriously.In the viva  , the examiner  asked my classmate "what precaution one should take while crossing the river." The question was in reference to the physics practical of finding refractive index and the expected answer  was "Actual depth is more than what It is observed because light travels from high density media( water) to low density media(air). So one should be careful while taking the first step to avoid slipping .   The examiner almost fainted when the answer given was" one should fold the sleeves  of the trouser else they will get wet !!

There was lust green scenery  on the other bank of the Ganges and some thick sand and small whitish stones on the bank where we entered  the water.The width of the river  was about 100 meters and the average depth  could be about 3or 4 meters.I was trying to estimate the quantity of water flowing continuously but gave up an attempt.That water was so clean that it needed  no treatment at all. Never before I have seen so much chilled and clean  water in that,abundant quantity..
 That was really an unforgettable experience with holy river.
Today people talk about clean Ganga project without ever questioning or thinking  who is making that clean water dirty and why? I am told that Ganga washes all the sins so the only reason for Ganga becoming dirty is there must be more crooks in our society now than good old days !!

FALL  IN   LINE 43 years back I attended one lecture of noted management expert and teacher , Professor Sharu Rangnekar and later  read his  one small and wonderful   book titled " In the wonderland of Indian Mangers".I honestly feel that no one has described  management style and work culture of  Indian Industries better than professor Rangnekar. Since then I have been a silent observer of the people I have met in various industries.
