BISCUITS...
BISCUITS
I think for me it is almost impossible to avoid eating biscuits particularly when I take tea or coffee. As such there is no rule that one should eat biscuit only with tea or coffee so I eat them anytime irrespective of whether I am hungry or not.Several times I eat biscuits in the night or early morning at wee hours!
I was told by my son after he returned from America that my habit of dipping biscuit in tea or coffee is bad.He insists that I must avoid this habit infront of visitors.I still dont know what is wrong in dipping the biscuit in tea.The only problem I have faced several time is that if biscuit is dipped little longer it disappears and then I have to use a spoon much against my wishes to swallow the paste after the last sip of tea.
I think that the first biscuit most of us had tasted in our childhood was Parle G ( in fact at that time it was called Parle Glucose) .ln those days there were not many varieties of biscuits compared to what we observe today.Eating Beckery items was not considered good thing in those good old days .Sometime my mother used to give flour and other ingredients to local beckary person and he used to deliver almost tasteless biscuits to us next day.!
Today when I go to any grocery shop I inadvertantly spend more than required time near the shelf on which different Biscuits and cookies are displayed. The packing quality has also improved over last 15 years and products indeed look attractive and tempting so much that one really feel like touching them !Cream biscuits,Namkeen Biscuits,Fifty-Fifty , Butter biscuits .coconut cookies and all other biscuits in which they claim to have mixed huge quantity of dry fruits like kaju, badam etc are stacked in the shelves systematically.( I know cashew nut is name for kaju and Almond for Badam in english) In some corner I observe Parle G biscuits with photograph of Saurav Ganguly on its packing. There is another cricketer "Sachin" who has. now switched to cream biscuits and more than for his cricketing abilities I admire him for his choice of those delicious cream biscuits ! I however wonder how the film star Vidya Balan , who is quite a good actress otherwise, love Marie biscuits ! I will rather prefer to eat bare dry flour rather than eating Marie biscuits...I feel like buying almost all varieties of Biscuits and in the process I invariably forget or fail to buy a thing for which visit to grocery shop was made.
In our home more than 70 % of biscuits are consumed by me while the rest are left for guests and my wife. When we are guests at someones' place I am reminded or to be precise instructed ,that I must not eat more than two biscuits and I confess that at times it is quite difficult for me to abide the instructions though I do that with heavy heart ! I remember in one of the airlines they used to offer cookies and everytime when I was in that Airline's flight ,I politely used to ask the air hostess "can I take two of them? " Looking at the smart person air hostess will have no option but to give a consent with a big smile.Honestly I used to be more interested in that cookie rather than that big smile.
Sometime I feel I am addicted to this habit of eating biscuits. I have made several unsuccessful attempts to overcome the addiction but I think since it is harmless I am not serious about giving up the habit .Nevertheless , in my opinion eating biscuits is the safest during any journey rather than eating any other snacks .You precisely know what will be the taste of the item you are going to eat and doubts regarding hygene of preparation and handling the snacks need not be considered. I have therefore dropped the idea of giving up such a good habit.Needless to add that I start my day with "Godday biscuit" and I trust without that the day cannot be good !
