karma and Prarabdha

  In our lives there are many things on which we don't have any control. Why someone is born in middle class family or rich family or poor family , we don't know the answer, nor we can change it.  Why one is not as tall as other person or as strong as other person,there are no answers . 


It is said that  these things are controlled by your past deeds ( karma ) in earlier births and that type of karma is called 'prarabdh'  or Niyati.


What is going to happen is also not known but to a large extent depending on the efforts one takes , future can be better. There is no guarantee that excellent efforts done today  will give good results in the future but chances of better results definitely increase.  What we do today is in our hand ,is in our control to some extent. It is however almost certain that if one does not put any efforts then the results are likely to be bad.

 Bhagwat Geeta tells that what will be happening is predecided ( Adhyay 11 shloka 34) 

तस्मात्त्वमुत्तिष्ठ यशो लभस्व ,

जित्त्वा शत्त्रून्भुङ्क्ष्व राज्यम्  समृद्धम् l

  मयैवैते        निहताफ्       पूर्वमेव

निमित्तमात्रम् भव सव्यसाचिन् ll 33 ll

 

                         

Though everything is predecided ,Geeta never tells that one need not do any efforts to achieve the goals . In fact it tells that one must make full efforts to get favorable results.


Examples

1

 If a farmer works hard in his field ,sows good quality seeds ,removes  the  weeds , use good fertilizer and takes all the care  is likely to get good harvest. There are   however,  many factors on which farmer doesnot have any control like weather conditions whether it will rain at appropriate time in right proportion or whether the Sunshine will not be excessive when the plant is young etc . Inspite of his best efforts the end result could be good ,bad or excellent.  On the other hand if farmer doesnot work hard and has casual approach    in spite of the best conditions on which he dorsnot have control his yield will be poor.

A student who works hard and is intelligent may still can get bad result because on several factors like ,how will be his health on examination  day, who will be examiner, whether the question paper will be  tough or easy  ,etc ,he or she doesn't have any control. Sometime his answer sheet can get lost for which he is not responsible So result may or maynot be good... Yes  but studying hard and preparing systematically is very much in his control and that is necessary condition. On the other hand  If one doesnot

put full efforts it is almost certain that the result will be bad. All that is in our hand is to do  acts which are in his control  and only hope for the good outcome .

It is very clearly mentioned in Geeta that one has no right on outcome (Adhyay 2 shloka 47.7)

कर्मण्ये वाधिकरास्ते

मा फलेषु कदाचन l

मा  कर्मफलहेतुर्भर् मा ते

सङ्गोऽस्त्कर्मणि  ll 47 ll

FALL IN LINE

FALL  IN   LINE 43 years back I attended one lecture of noted management expert and teacher , Professor Sharu Rangnekar and later  read his  one small and wonderful   book titled " In the wonderland of Indian Mangers".I honestly feel that no one has described  management style and work culture of  Indian Industries better than professor Rangnekar. Since then I have been a silent observer of the people I have met in various industries.
