NEWS PAPER


On yet another morning I picked  the news paper which was ruthlessly delivered and was lying in the front court-yard unnoticed for several hours.

As usual the front page was a full page ad followed by more than half page ads on the next page which was actually the first page.. These days one has to find news even on the first page as they  almost get lost or hidden by so many  surrounding commercials.

 I wonder who reads all these ads and is there really any benefit of spending so much money on them.I know  that news papers' primary income is from ads and therefore they will be always there but neither the companies  giving the ads nor the news paper companies  are bothered about how many trees are cut for producing the papers consumed by news papers. At least 50 percent space is occupied by ads which are absolutely irrlevent and hence useless to more than 90 percent news paper readers . Well the....percentage figures quoted here  are imaginary but must be  quite close to reality......  This could be a good topic of research and may be someone can get Ph.D. on this.
 
 Mobile revolution has kept younger generation away from the news paper. At my Son's place he doesnot get any news paper and whenever I go and stay with him I insist for regular delivery of morning news paper. I am then told that there are better ways to kill the flies or Mosquitoes !

In one of his rare visits my son observed me killing mosquito with news paper and he immedietly ordered the mosquito killing racket on  "Amazon " and asked me to stop news paper !  Perhaps he believes that i get news paper only for killing those creatures.

In good old days R K Lakshman's cartoons was the great attraction for me and that was perhaps only worth reading piece in the news paper .Gone are those days.

With increase in age ....of all the things , I have started reading obitury coloumn in the news paper regularly.  That is not an attraction but at times  perhaps the only useful  unfortunate information . ......(I think useless..not useful)

With a new  racket which is more effective I too feel stopping news paper but then I cannot change the habit of reading news paper at least for a minute or two ! At times i inadvertantly read 2 days old paper also thinking it is the latest !

Though most youngsters dont bother to read news papers they have more information and latest news. Like the smart phones they too are smart and better informed with the news . Any time they google and get latest information on any topic which matters to them. 

After ruining or killing so many businesses and gadgets perhaps the next victim of mobile phone is the news paper which anyway has short life like moquitoes !

FALL IN LINE

FALL  IN   LINE 43 years back I attended one lecture of noted management expert and teacher , Professor Sharu Rangnekar and later  read his  one small and wonderful   book titled " In the wonderland of Indian Mangers".I honestly feel that no one has described  management style and work culture of  Indian Industries better than professor Rangnekar. Since then I have been a silent observer of the people I have met in various industries.
