POWERFUL TOOL


My advanced apologies to all the doctors who may  get rubbed inadvertantly !

Thete was a time when doctors were respected in the cities .Gone are those days now. The  Doctors were not only respected but almost worshiped in small places.That thing is also on decline.

Today almost all the Doctors have become excessively dependent on various gadgets  and liberally recommend several medical tests to the patiens.The Unfortunate thing is there is perceptible degradation in the skill or ability to diagnose . Some  cannot conclude even after seeing  the reports of  several tests recommended by them.

40 years back things were different .

I have a doctor friend who used to work in CGHS . He is a very good Doctor...... but he does not  know that !

Following incident will explain his expertize.

Once when a lady visited him in his clinic with her 11 year old child,he examined it and declared that child is suffering from TB. The lady was frightened and went to another doctor who was child specialist to get second opinion ...He gave clean chit to child after several tests telling the  lady that  without x ray, TB conclusion cannot be drawn and x ray confirms that child has no TB. The lady came to CGHS and had an argument with my  doctor friend accusing him that he doesn't understand anything etc etc. CGHS doctor re- examined child carefully  and with full confidance stated that the child has TB ....whether to accept his opinion or not was up to the lady. Now this lady was worried and went to the best TB specialist in Mumbai and told the opinions of two doctors. This  specialist doctor confirmed after examining the child  indeed is suffering from TB. He then  asked the details of my friend and contacted him . When he inquired about which college my friend studied from ... he discovered that they  both were from same  medical college  of Indore  in MP.

My doctor friend told me that stethoscope is a very powerful tool to examine human body and almost everything is revealed by correctly using it. He added that in good old days ' Hakim' and 'Vaidya" used to diagonise by checking pulse and stethascope is definitely better for understanding pulse frequency and its rhythm.

Today the medical instrumentation is quite advanced and there are several costly equipments and modern techniques to  know about inside of the human body .All those  modern tools and techniques must be definitely helping but  all our Doctor friends must not forget that the basic tool is stethoscope and they must have  trust in it and improve their ability to use it effectively. 
One is not against all these diagnostic equipments  but the observation is they are over used and at times unnecessarily used.

How lively this world will be if we have real expert doctors who effectively use stethoscope and don't ignore what it reveals !

FALL IN LINE

FALL  IN   LINE 43 years back I attended one lecture of noted management expert and teacher , Professor Sharu Rangnekar and later  read his  one small and wonderful   book titled " In the wonderland of Indian Mangers".I honestly feel that no one has described  management style and work culture of  Indian Industries better than professor Rangnekar. Since then I have been a silent observer of the people I have met in various industries. RANGNEKAR described  in the book how people avoid work in the systematic manner.He also mentioned  about 90 /10  formulae stating that  in almost all Indian  industries and offices 90 percent work is done by 10 percent of the employees and balance 10 percent work is done by 90 percent of the employees .When I observe people I try to place them in either 90 percent or 10 percent category .
